Book a session

Your first appointment

What happens when you start

Reaching out is often the hardest step. Here's what to expect, so there are no unknowns.

  1. Book your session

Book online, call us or send an enquiry. If you'd like, our practice manager will talk through who might be the best fit and what funding you can use.

  2. Send your referral and complete intake forms

If you're using Medicare, email or ask your GP to send your Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral before your first session.

  3. Arrive, or join online

For in-person sessions, arrive 5 minutes early and take a seat in our quiet waiting room. For telehealth, we'll email you a secure link. Find a private spot and join a few minutes before your start time.

  4. Your first session

This 50-minute session is mostly about getting to know you: what's brought you here, your background and what you'd like to be different. You decide how much to share. We'll also explain confidentiality and answer any questions.

  5. Plan the way forward

By the end of the session you'll have a clearer idea of the way forward. You are welcome to change clinicians or stop at any time.

Common questions

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. You only need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral if you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Some people find 6–10 sessions enough for a specific concern. While others prefer longer-term support, some want just a few sessions. We'll review progress with you regularly.

Can I choose my psychologist?

Yes. You're welcome to request a clinician by name, or we can suggest someone based on what you're looking for and availability.

What if it doesn't feel like the right fit?

Tell us. The relationship with your therapist matters, and changing clinicians is common and completely fine.

Is there a wait?

Wait times vary by clinician. Most new clients are seen within 2–3 weeks. Ask to join our cancellation list for earlier times.

How does confidentiality work for young people?

For clients under 14, we need to seek parental or guardian consent. A client over 14 who is mature enough may consent for themselves. We'll explain what is and isn't shared with parents at the start. Even young clients have client confidentiality.
