Clear fees, no surprises
Fees are paid at the end of each session for clients attending the office, and before the appointment (via EFTPOS or direct debit) for clients attending via telehealth. If you’re eligible for a Medicare rebate, we submit it on your behalf, and it’s usually in your bank account within a day or two.

Funding options
Ways to reduce the cost
Medicare – Better Access
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP, you can claim a rebate for up to 10 individual sessions each calendar year (1 January to 31 December).
- Your GP usually refers you for up to 6 sessions first, then reviews how things are going before referring you for the remaining 4.
WorkCover
WorkCover allows for 6 pre-approved sessions with a psychologist. A referral from your GP is advisable, as this helps coordinate your care. You will need a claim number, which you can provide at the time of booking or any time before your appointment.
Private health insurance
Many extras policies cover psychology. You can claim either Medicare or your private health fund for a session, but not both. Check with your fund about your limits.
DVA
DVA White and Gold Card holders may be eligible for fully funded sessions. Please bring your card to your first appointment.
NDIS
We see self-managed and plan-managed participants who have funding under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living. We will need your NDIS number and will draw up a service agreement for you. Providing a copy of the relevant parts of your plan helps your clinician to work with you to set therapeutic goals and develop a treatment plan.
QPS
We are on the QPS Self-Refer Register. All you need is your QPS number when booking. Shine Strong Psychology prioritises QPS members, and you will be offered an appointment within 24 hours of booking. All invoices are de-identified through the system, so your identity remains completely private from QPS. All of our clinicians on the QPS Self-Refer Register are trained in EMDR and have experience working with first responders.
EAP
Employee Assistance Program sessions are billed directly to your employer’s EAP provider. Shine Strong Psychology partners with many local businesses to provide EAP. Please contact us to confirm whether we are approved by your employer as your EAP provider. Usual client confidentiality applies. Your employer will not know that you are accessing the service (unless you tell them), and they do not have access to your file or receive any personal information about you.
Victims Assist
If you have been affected by an act of violence in Queensland, Victims Assist Queensland may help cover the cost of counselling. If you have already been approved, you can provide your VA number before your appointment. If you are waiting for approval, or have yet to make an application, you will need to cover the cost until your funding is approved. We can issue receipts for you to lodge with your claim, as you may be eligible to be reimbursed.
Late Cancellation and No Show Fees
If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible. This enables us to offer the appointment time to another client. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) incur a $100 fee, and no-shows incur the full fee. We will send a confirmation text 48 hours prior to your appointment as a reminder. If you are concerned, or have been charged a late cancellation or no-show fee and would like to talk about it, please call our office and one of our friendly team members will help you.
